University Hospital Limerick’s new state of the art Emergency Department is the most overcrowded in the country today.
According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation the €24m facility which opened last Monday has 39 patients on trolleys or chairs.
At South Tipp General in Clonmel there are 19 patients without a bed – up from just 2 yesterday.

Nationally there are 314 people at hospitals across the country who have yet to be given a bed.
