Premier’s Live Register figures continue to fall

The number of people signing on in Tipperary has fallen by 17% since January of last year.

According to the latest figure from the Central Statistics Office there were nearly 9,500 on the Live Register in the Premier County last month.

All but two of Tipperary’s eight Social Welfare offices recorded a drop in the numbers signing on in January.

Clonmel with an extra 30 and Cashel with 10 more were the only ones not following the downward trend compared to December.

The largest drop in numbers was in Nenagh where 42 fewer people signed on.

Year-on-year the figures are down right across the county – with a 21% fall in Cahir compared to January 2017 and a 19% reduction in Carrick on Suir.

In all there are 9,457 people on the Live Register in County Tipperary.

While there’s been a downward trend in the numbers signing on in recent years the figures are in stark contrast to a decade ago – up nearly 55% on January 2008.
