Kickham Barracks update

Finance appears to be the stumbling block which is holding up the redevelopment of the former army barracks in Clonmel.

The Defence Forces vacated Kickham Barracks in March of 2012 following which it was acquired by Tipperary County Council.

Ambitious plans were drawn up which include the building of a new Garda Station for Clonmel and the relocation of both L.I.T and Tipperary ETB.

A civic plaza also forms part of the overall plan for the 11 acre site.

A report for this months meeting of the Borough District said Tipperary County Council is currently examining ways of raising the necessary funds for the development of the entire site.

Councillor Michael Murphy said he was heartened by the progress report from District Manager Sinead Carr.

The OPW will fund the new Garda Station while both L.I.T and the Education & Training Board rely on Government financing for capital projects

Councillor Michael Murphy is hopeful of positive news in the coming months regarding the Garda station.
