A Tipperary TD says the government is not tackling the housing problem in the right way.
The lack of building since the economic downturn has led to a significant shortfall in the number of houses available in the rental sector – both private and local authority.
Since 2011 €30 million has been spent purchasing houses from the private sector in Tipperary to supplement the housing stock.

However Fianna Fáil Deputy Jackie Cahill feels it would have been cheaper to build than buy.
