A major rescue operation was launched on Lough Derg yesterday after 2 people got into difficulty after their boat began taking in water.
The Lough Derg RNLI and the Irish Coast Guard Search & Rescue Helicopter from Shannon were called to assist two people reported to be in the water at Cloondevaun Bay on the north-eastern shore of the lake.
When rescue services got to the scene the vessel was aground on the rocks with its passengers back on board.

The crew assessed the casualties – an elderly couple on holidays from overseas and with little English – and found them to be well.
The lifeboat took them to Terryglass Harbour.
