New car sales down across Premier

New car sales in Tipperary are down over 6% this year.

Nationally sales are down by 4% since January.

Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show there were 3,188 new vehicles sold in the Premier County from January to August.

This compares with 3,396 T reg cars for the same period in 2017.

Cavan recorded the biggest drop in sales this year – down nearly 15%.

Just five counties saw new car sales increase in 2018 – with Wexford faring best, up 5%.

The SIMI has recorded a fall of almost 4% in registrations over the year to date.

The organisation is warning that the growth in used car imports – up 10 percent this year – will continue to undermine new car sales.
