A Tipperary man says he’s astounded at the amount of security needed for Pope Francis’ visit this month.
Michael Egan from Thurles is a former Garda, and was tasked with protecting the then Pontiff John Paul ii on his last visit in 1979.
This time the State is planning to spend over 3 million euro in security for the visit – with extra Gardai in patrol, as well as extra deployment of CCTV and even the use of drones to prevent any trouble during the visit.
