Calls for a return of town councils

Fianna Fáil wants to re-establish town councils – three years after they were scrapped.

The party’s looking for Dail approval to set up a commission to look at setting them up again.

It says the commission could report back within six months and have the councils back running by 2019.

The party’s local government spokesman Shane Cassells says only towns with populations of over 10,000 would get them back.
