A young man who drowned in Carrick on Suir last evening may have gotten into difficulty because he wasn’t familiar with the area.
Stephen Hoare – who was living in Carrick but originally from Cashel – went swimming in the Suir close to Ormonde Castle at the back of Manor Court.
It’s understood he got stuck in a whirlpool and others including his brother were unable to reach him

Local Councillor Kieran Bourke described it as an awful tragedy saying most local people would be aware of the dangers of swimming in that area.
